Flip asked:
I remember a few years ago, Houston’s minor league teams were the New Orleans Zephyrs for AAA, and Round Rock for AA. Now the Zephyrs are the AAA team for the Marlins, and Round Rock has moved up to AAA. I checked a couple of the minor league teams out, and this seems to happen a lot. Why is that?
BUSINESS LOANS BANKS ARE SAYING NO, We CAN SAY YES! Get up to $100K

i have no clue but maybe because the players have to experience diffrent locations to become a great mlb player.

There are several reasons. First and foremost is the simple fact that teams sign contracts with their minor league franchises and they are looking for the best deal possible.
After that, there are several other factors to consider – for example, the Dodgers recently ended their AAA agreement with Las Vegas and went back to Albuquerque. The Dodgers were disappointed in the environment at Cashman Field and in the franchise for doing nothing to improve an aging and failing stadium. Not to mention the stupid “Area 51s” name and goofy alien logo. It was something of an embarassment to the Dodgers, so off they went. Toronto only signed a one-year deal with Vegas and they’ll be looking for a new AAA team next year, too, because they want a AAA team closer to the parent club if they call someone up.
So – save money, right environment for developing players, proximity to parent club…lots of factors.

The minor league stadiums and facilities are owned by local business people. The parent MLB teams have contracts with them that eventually expire. So there are usually changes during every off season.

One good reason. City officials@@@g around with the team.
Case in point: The Philadelphia Phillies had an AAA team in Wilkes Barre for over 15 years, but chose not to renew it. one of the reasons, city county officials f####g around witht he operations of the stadium.
In the long run, the people of the WB/Scranton area were the winners, as the Yankees put their AAA team there.
The Wilkes Barre Phillies AAA team ended in in Allentown, a city which previously only had an independent team, so the people of Allentown came out ahead. So did Columbuis, Ohio. They lost the yankee AAA yeam, but now have Cleveland ’s AAA team.
You might be interested to know, minor league-0 major league contracts can only be written for a term of 3 years. So, after 3 years, teams must ask each other, “: is this working?”
Another reason, is , distance! The Atlanta Braves have moved theyr AAA team to Gwinnet, GA, which is very close to Atlanta., possiblky less that 50 miles. So, if they call a player, at, say, 3PM, he can make it to Atlanta in time to be in the starting lineup. Of course, Gwynnett just build a brand neww stadium with the intent of getting the Braves’ AAA team. And Richmond, the city where ther Braves WERE, gets an empty bag.
But, FYI, The Reading ( PA) Phillies have been affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies for over 40 years.

I think it’s ridiculus that the do that because they build up a fanbase in the area or their minor league clubs and when they move away everyone ends up hating them…
